It's that time of year...

The weather is starting to get cooler.
Leaves are beginning to change color.
And shorts are slowly lengthening to pants (moving from short-shorts to Bermuda's to capris to pants; don't pretend you don't believe in the evolution of leggings).
You all know what that means...


No. It's not time to bring out the tailgate and gather round 'cause football season is upon us. But please do. It will help you to relax and get through this busy time of year known to high school seniors as crunch time. Meaning, of course, that now is the time for these poor kids to narrow down their college choices and heaven forbid if they have more than the recommended five maximum! So yes, in between trying to navigate through college websites (which is EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING! ) , b.s.-ing your way through essays on topics your not quite sure to answer because you are only 17 and have not had a "life changing experience" yet, and trying to decide which teacher would say the nicest/best things about you for a recommendation letter, make sure you scarf down at least one greasy hot dog along with several buckets of wings and who knows how much bean dip while trying to watch fellows who made it in to the very college you wish you were at without having to go through the application process because they can catch a ball. whew. Doesn't watching football just make you feel so much better?

I must admit that I have no fondness for the sport. Can't you tell?
Wait... I lied. If a school has a football team then they usually have a marching band which means they probably have majorettes. I am fond of schools with majorettes being that I was once on and continue to throw the ol' metal sticks around for fun when I get bored.

Anyways. That long sentence containing 115 words is not why I started to write this entry. I am writing it because I have finally settled on my five schools. And they are..drum roll please...

What's my number one choice? I'll never tell! And, just to let you know, they are in a random order above which was made by making little slips of paper with each name on it and drawing them out of a hat. Seriously.

I am going to start a new thing with my posts. I have a lot of quotes/rhetorical questions/sayings that I like. I am going to start posting them. Maybe you'll learn a bit from them. Maybe one will cause you to think about something you never have before. Maybe one will make you laugh. Or not. I really don't care any way. They are for your enjoyment so I hope you enjoy them.

After all of that rambling, I'm going to leave you with this thought: If you keep trying to rearrange the deck chairs on the sinking Titanic, you are ignoring the obvious problem.

Hectic-ness!

Wow. This summer has just flown by. Before I knew it, it was labor day weekend and I have been in school for three weeks already!

Goodbye August!

Hello September and all the messiness you are going to bring with you.
Ahhh.... the scent and doom of applying to colleges.... how I look forward to you.

Here's to getting through this month and making the decisions that will affect our lives forever... Cheers.

I can’t imagine not teaching the favorited dance to “Rhythm in Me” to my kindergarten Sunday school class. Their faces light up and they can’t wait to hear more songs from the boyz! To get these kids pumped about the big man in the sky is a great thrill… and I love that the boyz help me to do it!

AP Tests

AHH! AP tests start next week!

This year I will be taking three: Ap Cal AB (wed), Ap US History (fri), and Ap English Language (next wed). And I am not sure if I'll do ok in any... FYI: Last year I got a 3 in Euro.

Easter Pie brings Tears... and fire

We tried to make a pumpkin pie last night to celebrate Easter... but the oven caught on fire and smoke filled the room.... so, (i know, this post is short and sweet!) there was no easter pumpkin pie! :(

Florida Band Trip '07

The Florida Band Trip finally came. Here's a little of what we did.

Thursday: Woke up at 4:15 and at school at 5:00. Spent 7 hours on a bus. That night, we went to the Dixie Stampede (my fourth time, but still fun). That night, we hung out at the hotel. I went to Ali's "bible class." She sat in a chair that was propping the door open and whenever someone walked by in the hall she would start reading very loudly from the bible and people in the room would yell "Amen!" or "Praise the lord!" It was ridiculously funny because the people in the hall would start sprinting just to get away. (When people weren't in the hall, it was a normal room party)

Friday: Up early, curled my hair, hair fell out, got in bus for Islands of Adventure, and marched around the whole park. Afterwards, we were set free to enjoy the park all day. At around 2ish, this family stopped us and asked if we were from Auburn, Alabama (we had auburn band shirts on). After replying yes, they told us that they were leaving for the day and said that we could have their express passes (unlike Disney, you buy an express pass and can go in the front of all the lines). No more waiting in lines for us! We skipped to the front of lines making 90 minute waits turn into 10 minutes... and we got open mouths from other people in our band! Of course, these passes changed our names (had to match name on pass) so our little group became the Mayts family.

Saturday: A day for fun. Today we had park hopper passes. We started in Universal and spent the rest of the day at Islands of Adventure (honestly.... not much at Universal). The express passes from Friday were expired, but that didn't stop us from trying (Come on, all you had to do was cover the date with your finger). The bad news was, our group had adopted two more people (meaning two without passes). Here's our best story from today: The Dudley Doright Ride had a 90 minute wait, so we decided to try our expired fast passes (first time we used them Saturday). The four girls got in the fast pass line and later down the two boys with us jumped over. Now normally, they never checked again (only at the beginning). As our luck would have it, right before you join the normal line and get into the boat, they check again. The lady let me and Kate pass right away then shut the rope on the rest of our party. Right now, we thinking "Oh man, what is going to happen? The guys do not have cards, not even expired ones!" Kate and I rode the ride and waited for the others at the bottom. Turns out that her boyfriend had just come up and she had closed the rope so she could smooch on him. While she was kissing her boyfriend, the two guys in our group ducked under the rope and run out and jumped in a boat. A few minutes later, she opened the rope again and the other two girls were able to pass and join the ride. Aren't we naughty? (Yes, we know it was bad... but we used them a couple more times Saturday)

Sunday: Bus ride home. YAY!
